John recently retired after 30 years as a banking and corporate law Partner at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP in New York. He has been recognized in numerous publications as one of the world’s leading banking lawyers.
Since 2004, John, Sr., has served as Chairman of Richina Inc., a private holding company with assets in China and New Zealand. John has extensive experience in China. He was closely involved in the earliest Chinese bank IPO. In 1998, John and his late law partner, former U.S. Secretary of State Cyrus R. Vance, worked with the highest level of the Chinese government in an effort to attract private Western investment into key Chinese State-owned enterprises.
John, Sr., is a Director of Hamilton State Bancshares. He also serves as the Vice Chairman of the Board and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Financial Services Volunteer Corps. and he is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and The Bretton Woods Committee.
John, Sr., holds J.D. and B.A. (Economics) degrees from Duke University.
